A Shark air purifier is able to improve air quality. Air passes through the filters in the air purifier, after which polluted dust particles are filtered out of the air. Clean air is then blown back into space.
To ensure that the air purifier can continue to do its job properly, it is important to maintain it properly. In this manual I tell you exactly how you can clean a Shark air purifier.
Why clean a Shark air purifier?
Let’s start with the question of why it is important to clean a Shark air purifier regularly. Let me list the main reasons:
- Preventing the spread of dust particles
- Less chance of a smelly air purifier
- Longer device life
- Replace filters less quickly
It should therefore be clear that cleaning the air purifier is recommended.
How to clean a Shark air purifier?
Cleaning a Shark air purifier consists of two parts: the exterior and the interior. Let’s start with the outside of the air purifier.
Cleaning the exterior
It is best to use a clean microfiber cloth to clean the exterior of the Shark air purifier. You can easily dust the device with this. To also disinfect the air purifier, you can use a little lukewarm water with soap.
Follow the steps below:
- Turn off the Shark purifier
- Remove the plug from the socket
- Dust the exterior of the purifier with a dry microfiber cloth
- Disinfect the exterior with a clean cloth with soap and water

Make sure that you do not use chemical cleaning agents as little water as possible to prevent any damage. Do not switch the device on again until it has dried completely.
Cleaning the interior
Cleaning the interior of the air purifier is also important. You can use a vacuum cleaner for this. Preferably use a crevice tool with a soft dusting brush, so that you cannot make scratches and you can easily reach it.
Follow the steps below:
- Turn off the Shark air purifier completely
- Remove the plug from the socket
- Remove the filter from the air purifier
- Carefully vacuum the inside of the air purifier

Please note: when cleaning the interior, you should not use water and chemical cleaning agents.
In the video below I show all the cleaning steps.
Cleaning the filter is not possible
It is important to emphasize that you cannot clean the filters of Shark air purifiers. You should replace these regularly. See how and how often you should replace a Shark air purifier filter.
You can turn it over and rotate it every 3 months. This extends the life of the filter. I recommend that you do this at the same time as you clean the purifier.

How often to clean a Shark air purifier?
It is of course also important to know how often you should clean a Shark air purifier. Shark recommends cleaning the air purifier every 2 months. Both the interior and the exterior.
The filters are therefore not washable: you must replace them. You should replace the filters every 6 to 12 months.
Cleaning activity | How often? |
---|---|
Cleaning the exterior | Every 2 months |
Cleaning the interior | Every 2 months |
Replace filters | 6-12 months |
The above cleaning intensity is a guideline. How often you actually have to clean an air purifier also depends on where you place an air purifier. In addition, you can of course also notice if it is time for a cleaning sooner. For example, if you see a layer of dust on the device.
